Auto insurance is an at will product. This means that you could change carriers at any time that you wish. What normally happens at the point of cancellation is your current carrier will refund any unused portion of paid premium. If you are working with a local agent and have concerns about cancelling your current policy talk with them and they should be able to assist you with the cancellation.
