The requirement for a credit score is a state specific requirement. In California, there isn’t a requirement for a credit score so companies never check your credit. Ask your insurance agent for guidance in this regard. I am not clear on why other states require a credit score. I suppose that there is actuarial data to confirm the linkage between credit score and likelihood that a specific driver will have an accident.

If there is a carrier that does not credit check it is more than likely priced higher than a carrier that does credit check. Credit score is only one factor amongst many that are used to calculate the rate that an insured will be charged for the automobile insurance that they are seeking.
