Typically a youthful, inexperienced driver will be charged a higher rate than a more experienced driver all other factors considered. It is the inexperience that creates a greater risk and the premium charged reflects that risk. That said, ask about discounts for Driver’s Eduction, good grades or if there are more drivers than vehicles, your younger driver may be entitled to a discounted rate.

In California there are a limited number of rating factors and the number of children isn’t a rating factor. In California rating is based upon the age, experience and driving record of all the drivers in the household. It takes into consideration the year make and model of the vehicle and the number of miles the vehicle will be used in a year. Lastly it considers where the vehicle is located.
