What rights do I have to dismiss a claim if my insurance company never informs me of it and I find out that such a claim exists from a different company?

My Wife Totaled A Car On A Shared Policy. Insurance Check Was Sent In Both Spouses Names – Do Both Spouses Need To Endorse The Check?
My wife and I are covered together under the same auto policy and each have a listed vehicle. Wife totaled her car and now insurance issued payment of check with both of our names on it. Is this mandatory that check be issued in both names and what happens if husband refuses to sign the check unless I get half the money from it. Also when I, being the husband has been the one that has paid each and every premium on the policy for both of the cars.

What is a salvage and recovery clause mean with language such as “All salvages, recoveries and payments recovered or received either prior or subsequent to a loss settlement under this policy shall be applied as if recovered or received prior to the said settlement and all necessary adjustments shall be made by the parties hereto, including deduction of the Company’s cost of recovery or salvage.”?
