Having excellant health coverge is a great start as it would cover most if not all of your expenses. There are some companies that offer coverage for cancer only or a heart attack only. US Health Advisors offer MedGuard which covers all critical illiness such as cancer, heart attack, stroke, kidney failure etc. As a stand alone product or part of health plan policy MedGuard will pay a lump sum to you directly to use at your discretion. You could use it to pay your deductible and co insurance and still have a balance to put towards personal expenses while you recover.
