When do I get long term care insurance? Usually people should start considering the purchase of long term care coverage from about 55 on. You can purchase it sooner and the price may be a bit lower, but most people start to see how their assets are going to line up as they go into retirement in the next decade or so. Long term care should be part of planning in most people’s portfolio.
