A homeowner’s policy covers damage from severe weather. It does not pay for “weathering.” Many insurance companies adjust claims for the roof differently than from the rest of the building. Even if the loss to a roof is the result of a storm, the company will normally adjust the claim on a depreciated value. This is because roofs have a limited life span.
